Introducing #BirdtoberAsia… Draw birds with us!

Every October, people all over the world take part in Inktober, where they respond to drawing prompts as a community to appreciate art and challenge themselves to create something each day. We’ll be participating as a team this year and we’ve come up with a special challenge to bring bird lovers and art lovers together.

It’s called #BirdtoberAsia and, as the name suggests, we’re focusing on celebrating birds from Asia. We see this as a spiritual companion to the ongoing #Birdtober challenge. Here is our list of prompts:

How to participate

1. Check the prompt of the day (e.g., Blue-winged Pitta for 1st  October)

2. Give your artistic take on the bird in question. Sketch, ink, sculpt or use whatever other medium you like.

3. Share your work on social media, using the hashtag #BirdtoberAsia and tag us @playlogue.sg. Inktober is all part of the community, so feel free to use #Birdtober and #Inktober as well. We will be sharing your submissions!

Who can participate?

As long as you love birds or/and art, you are welcome to join the #BirdtoberAsia challenge. You need not restrict yourself to illustrations.

If you’re a writer, feel free to share a poem or a musing on birds. And if you’re a photographer, share with us your favourite bird shots. Heck, if you’re a dancer, share a bird-themed performance. All creative entries are welcome!

If you’re up for the challenge, you can finish the whole list of prompts! But you could just pick the prompts that are fun for you. Take the time and breaks you need. As you would have noticed from our list, we’ve allocated rest periods for ourselves, too.

Here’s Iris’s rendition of the fetching Blue-winged Pitta. She first did a short experimental study of the bird through a rough sketch. Then she coloured it with watercolour brushes.
